The Project Leader is responsible for designing and leading routine to moderately complex Aseptic and Retort processing projects, which result in total customer and supervisor satisfaction and meeting or exceeding project economic performance. He/she will assist in all activities of the project including the proposal development, project design, project execution, collaboration with other team members and/or cross functional team members, and report writing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Serve as the primary day-to-day contact with clients on assigned projects.

Design and execute routine to moderately complex Aseptic projects and/or Retort projects.

Lead and coordinate Aseptic equipment validation project on The NFL and client’s facilities.

Provide guidance to clients on testing and validation of Aseptic packaging equipment and Retort processing equipment.

Ensure that projects are conducted to meet division’s quality standards.

Produce reliable results on time.

Conduct mathematical calculations to establish Aseptic and/or Retort thermal processes.

Maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment.

Follow appropriate SOP’s, GMP’s, and Protocols.

Assist in validation of Aseptic and Retort processing equipment.

Assist in research projects (Aseptic segment and product innovation and commercialization segments).

Assist in preparation of SOP’s for Aseptic equipment tests.

Prepare test materials for Aseptic or Retort equipment validation tests.

Provide professional assistance in other microbiology or process research related activities of the divisions.

Work as a team with all staff to accomplish position and business objectives.

Travel extensively to food processing facilities to conduct validation testing of Aseptic and/or Retort processing equipment (approximately 30-40% Travel).

Become licensed and maintain license as a retort operator.

Identify and communicate equipment and facility improvement options/issues to supervisor.

Position Requirements:

Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Basic microbiology techniques and procedures; SOP’s, GMP’s, and Protocols.  

Ability to: Assemble project team, define objectives for the project team, perform simple to moderately complex analyses and procedures, maintain and improve professional competency, cooperate with all staff members to maintain an open, professional working environment which is dedicated to providing superior customer service, maintain a safe and orderly work environment, maintain laboratory and experimental record review SOP’s, identify the need for SOP’s for new procedures; and, operate computer and use word-processing, spreadsheet and data gathering software.  Flexibility to easily transition from one task to another.

Education/Experience:
M.S. in microbiology, biology, food science/engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience in food or pharmaceutical thermal processing.

B.S. in microbiology, biology, food science/engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience in food or pharmaceutical thermal processing.

Experience with Aseptic processes and equipment, retort processes and equipment, developing scheduled cooks, and deviation analysis.
