Food Process Development

With years of experience, The NFL has developed an in-depth expertise in both thermal processing and process engineering. Here you will find a team whose skills with pilot plant trials, process engineering, commercialization, and co-packer development, are matched only by their knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements. Count on us to assist you with all aspects of your scale-up and commercialization needs.

Key Services:

  • Process Development & Evaluation
  • Industry Recognized Process Authority
  • Pilot Plant Trials Experimental and Test Product Runs
  • Scale-Up & Commercialization
  • Equipment Selection & Evaluation
  • Co-Manufacturer Searches

Pilot Plant Services:

Our pilot plant is a recognized Industry Process Authority by the FDA and USDA; and a California FDA licensed cannery. We offer a wide range of equipment and capabilities to test your products and processes and to determine exactly how to commercialize your most valued products. Use our 3,000 square foot pilot plant to process small runs of low or high acid foods; to generate shelf life, consumer research or sales samples; to evaluate multiple processing options; or to conduct heat penetration and process development testing.

Processing Capabilities

  • Multiple retort processing and agitation combinations: still , end-over-end, rocking, gentle motion, axial rotation, hydrostatic, steam, steam-air, water spray, water immersion and water cascade.
  • Hot Fill/Hot Fill and Hold/Cold Fill
  • UHT/HTST/Pasteurization/Aseptic Simulation
  • Carbonation and Bottling
  • Wet/Dry Blending
  • Evaporating, Concentrating and Spray Drying
  • Grinding/Chopping/Blending/Mixing
  • Preparation of refrigerated and shelf-stable products
  • Metal, glass, plastic, and flexible packages

State-of-the-Art Retort

commThe NFL now offers state-of-the-art retort capability with the addition of the Allpax Stretch 2402 multimode. With the new retort, we can identify the optimal combination of processing parameters (agitation and heating media) which will result in the highest quality product and maximum process efficiency. This translates to faster time-to-market for new products and potentially better sterilization solutions for products already on the market. By partnering with The NFL, you can now use one pilot plant, not multiple, and have product preparation and multiple retort processes and control strategies at your fingertips.
