Alan Roberts
President and Commissioner

Alan Roberts is President of The NFL and is based in Madison, Wisconsin. Alan is passionate about the food business.
He grew up in a four generation glass bottle making and food packaging family. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell and an MBA from Lehigh.
He worked for Competitive Technologies, a technology transfer firm, while earning his MBA, and also edited The Handbook of Agile Manufacturing Practices.
He spent two years at Alimenterics, a drug and device start-up company focused on detection of h. pylori. He then spent 11 years in National Starch’s (then part of Unilever) starch, packaging adhesive and consumer polymers businesses.
Alan joined Covance in 2010 and spent eight years in their nutritional chemistry, microbiology and pharmaceutical development units. In 2018 he assumed his role leading what is now (once again!) The NFL. Although we are The National Food Lab, Alan sees The NFL as much more, with our capabilities in supplements, packaging evaluation, and pet food.
He also intends to grow our respected franchise in consumer products like cosmetics, personal care and home care.
